General InformationChamberre runs in middle to late August (2008 is from August 20 to August 25) from early Wednesday afternoon through Monday breakfast. Attendees have a choice of 4 or 5 days, starting either Wednesday about 4:00 p.m. or Thursday 4:00 p.m. Usually about 65 people participate, with a maximum possible of 70. Some non-playing participants can be accommodated, so long as playing participants are not excluded because of space limitations. Cost for 2006 (players and non-players the same) was:
This includes accommodation, all meals, and full use of the facilities. Most attendees are string players, with some pianists (Rocky Ridge provides up to 6 pianos, 4 of which are grand, and all excellent quality). Occasional wind players attend, but need to be aware that they should bring appropriate chamber music (involving string players) with them. Alternatively, we would welcome a wind ensemble that would be willing to play, on an occasional basis, with string players. Wind Players: If you would like to attend Chamberre, note that most of the musical activities are for strings and piano. There is a wonderful, but limited, literature for strings and winds. We therefore encourage you to come as a wind ensemble so that, in many of the assigned sessions, you can play as a group without strings. Also, we do form the occasional orchestral session to play, for example, the Brandenburg's. |
